Question:
Should I talk to the insurance company after an auto accident?
Answer:
I was talking with a client of mine the other day and they had just received a call from an insurance claim advisor. My client had been in an accident and he wanted to know if it was a good idea to talk with the insurance company. It is absolutely not a good idea to talk with the insurance claim adjustor. It is better to retain counsel and have an attorney speak with that person. You may be required to provide a recorded statement about what happened. It is always better to do that in the presence of a lawyer who can guide you and help you through that process. The insurance adjustors are there to minimize the claim and you do not want to expose yourself to having your auto accident or injury minimized because of a conversation that you had with a claims adjustor.
